We so love China. Amazing history. Pretty amazing to think we've seen things that are 2500 years old. The story of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Human sacrifice for the Emperor was common. This particular emperor united China and gave it its common written language and common currency. Before that there were 16 versions of each. He decided he wanted his whole army to be sacrificed with when he died. A general came up with plan B, which was to build life size warriors out of terra cotta each with built to be an exact replica of each soldier, horse etc. pretty wonderful. The Emperor died suddenly when visited the site to inspect it at age 56, possibly from a bad case of being poisoned and the warriors were placed to guard him in the afterlife. So we were looking at a whole army facing forward or outwards but you can see how the formation worked.
Last night we had a dumpling feast. 15 kinds of dumplings. Am i gaining weight? you bet i am.
More ramblings. As i said children are important to the Chinese. Some families move to hong kong for a few years to have a second child. There is no 1 child ban in hong kong. Then they move back to China where there is no problem with the second child. The new premier has somewhat lifted the ban on 1child if both parents are only children. Also if you are a farmer you may have a second child. Some younger couples here with exposure to the west have chosen to be DINKS. Two incomes no kids.
We are boarding the cruise today and may not have wifi. Wifi is not widespread in China.is that crazy? (Dz-but they all have way cool phones to browse)
Also while i patiently wait on line, if some Chinese man just cuts in front of me again I'm going to try kung fu on him. They're so polite except for Waiting their turn.
Another mistake on the part of the Zalmans. You are supposed to introduce yourself last name first, then first name. We forgot and in Harbin we were called Prof Melanie and Mr David. There was no trying to correct it after the first time. We will be forever called the above.
Lastly, hello Debra and JKB you better be reading this now. Also happy belated birthday Judy and happy birthday Nils.
